Travelling with children

By taking a few simple measures, you can ensure a comfortable trip for both children and adults.

Travelling with toddlers

Through security

The general rule is that it is not permitted to bring liquids on board. However, you are permitted to bring food and drink for your child for use during the flight. Food containers may contain more than 100 ml, and do not need to be packed in transparent, re-sealable plastic bags.

Take the baby food out of your hand baggage when going through security. The contents of the containers are subject to random spot checks.

You may want to prepare your children and tell them in advance what will happen at the airport. For example, it may be a good idea to tell them that toys must be examined at the security checkpoint and that they will be returned to them afterwards.

Prams and pushchairs

Prams, pushchairs and car seats are special baggage.

  • Check the pram/pushchair or seat at the counter or check-in machine. You will receive a separate baggage tag for the pram.
  • The pram must then be brought to the separate check-in counter for special baggage, where you can purchase bags that protect the pram.
  • The baggage tag must be affixed to the outside of the plastic bag so that it is clearly visible.

More durable protective equipment, such as PramPack, can be purchased or rented. Some insurance companies only cover damage if the pram/pushchair/seat is packed in this way.

Note: Umbrella strollers (strollers that can be collapsed like an umbrella) may in certain cases be brought along as hand baggage, but please be aware that this depends on the airline. Consult your airline well before departure.
