Emergency passport

Sometimes, you may discover too late that your passport has expired or that you simply cannot find it when you're about to travel. If this happens, you can contact the police unit at the airport to apply for an emergency passport. An emergency passport is a temporary, light blue document issued by the police. Remember to check whether the country you are traveling to accepts emergency passports.

Important to know about emergency passports

It is the traveler’s own responsibility to have valid ID documents when traveling. It is recommended that you check your passport before booking a trip—remember to check the expiration date. Also make sure to check the expiration date on the passports/ID cards of any minors, as these typically have a shorter validity period than those for adults.

If you need an emergency passport, you must contact your nearest police station that issues emergency passports as soon as possible. All information is available on the police website. When children under 18 apply for an emergency passport, either prior electronic consent must be registered, or both parents must be present.
